Happy Holidays!
We discuss about winding down and prepping for the new year...
Hello & Welcome to the Writer Story!
Since the last newsletter, there has been a swift increase in the number of subscribers, and I’m just overwhelmed and grateful for all the love and support. Thank you all so much.
This is going to be the last Writer Story newsletter for 2024. As I wind down for the year, my goal is to finish the dev edits on my current Work in Progress — A second chance portal fantasy romance featuring Gods/mythical beings from Indian mythology.
But there are also personal and family goals to be taken care of. I have a list of baked goods to make and eat at the very top of my agenda, because it’s that time of the year. Also I’ve been planning a spa retreat. It’s all about rest, relaxation, self-care, family and lots of food.
The last month of the year is when publishing people are also winding down. So it’s generally suggested not to start querying after Thanksgiving, a mistake I did once and repented greatly for it. Most editors/agents are likely to be working on clearing their inboxes and also getting ready for the Holidays. If you are midway in your query journey, maybe take a pause and wait for the new year. And if you are on sub to editors, like myself, you need to temper your expectations as things might be slowing down that causes inactivity in your inboxes.
As writers here are a few things we can do during the holidays…
Put on the observer hat while we are on vacation or on a family dinner or hosting the holiday party. Nothing better than to take inspiration from real people, it makes the characters in our stories so much more believable.
Rewatch your favorite movies/shows. I am sitting on a Lord of The Rings and Hobbit rerun. One of our little tradition we do every year.
Plan your new year’s writerly agenda. Things to do, and things to aim for.
and just take a step back to reassess what you have accomplished. Remember to not discard little accomplishments, because that’s how the big things fall in place.
If you are reading this, I would love if you could share your writerly accomplishments in the comment below. Because I just love to cheer on my community.
That’s all for today.
